Yoga and Running

by FitnessGuru on February 14, 2009

Running and YogaRunning is one sport that is highly addictive. Running is also a sport that is extremely hard on your body. Not only will your feet take a beating during a run, but every last muscle and joint in your body will be impacted when you strike the ground.

Runners often have a long list of bodily injuries that are a direct result of their beloved sport. Back pain, knee pain, hamstring pain, sore feet – these (and more) are the most common complaints of runners. Yoga can help with all of these things, while also helping to balance your entire body.

Most people don’t tend to connect yoga and running – after all, they are (seemingly) completely different types of exercise. The truth of the matter is that yoga and running go perfectly well together. Those difficult yoga poses help to strengthen muscles, but they also provide a much more important function.

Yoga really strengthens the mind. Yoga helps to boost confidence. Yoga provides that extra bit of energy. Thus, the more you practice yoga…the better your runs will become. Not to mention the fact that your body will be able to endure longer runs thanks to muscle and mind-building yoga.

While yoga may not get rid of all those running pains in one shot, runners that participate in yoga regularly find that their long list of complaints has been greatly reduced. In fact, yoga is the perfect compliment for nearly any sport out there.

Thanks to its ability to balance, strengthen, and focus both the mind and body, no sport should be practiced without the compliment of yoga. If you are a runner, consider helping your body to deal with all that harsh impact – sign up for a yoga class and give your body a helping hand.
