Before we dive into the comparison of Soy and Whey Protein, I need to let you know that whey protein is considered one of the best supplements in the world. However, due to it’s popularity, there are many other types of supplement which claimed that they are able to whey protein. Soy protein is one powerful example. Let me tell you why the both of these supplements are so different.
Whey protein contains as many ingredients as you can find in mother’s milk. Although whey protein doesn’t a warrant a replacement as mother’s milk, whey protein is safe for babies as well as any adult.
Whey protein is manufactured when milk is changes into cheese. Soy protein is different in this sense as the protein comes from soy beans. Whey protein comes from animals – since it originates from milk.
Soy protein has several health benefits. However, it cannot be matched up to whey protein is many ways. For an example, drinking too much soy milk or drinking too much bean curds has been scientifically proven that it will make your knees in the long run. These science results were geared towards women.
What is considered too much? From these scientific researches, it seem that only two servings everyday would be termed as “too much”.
What about whey protein? Is there a maximum amount of servings everyday? Till today, there isn’t any scientific research to prove that eating too much whey protein is harmful in the long-run. But, you have to be careful about how much protein you eat everyday if you need to spread it throughout the day.
Soy protein is more commonly available than whey protein. This is another reason why people tend to replace whey protein with soy protein – because they have absolutely no idea the importance of whey protein in their muscle building journey.
Soy protein can be found in salad dressings, soups, diary creams, infant formulas and bread, pastas and breakfast cereals. You might be consuming soy protein unknowingly.
However, I don’t really recommend soy protein as a good supplement as soy is considered the second most allergenic food. Soybeans are considered a complete protein source as compared to many other food sources. On the other hand, several experts have expressed their disagreements on this. Whole soybeans have the highest amounts of phytic acids which is an organic acid and mineral chelator which binds to different minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron. For people who have ingestion of such minerals, this effect can be disastrous as soy protein minimize the amount the body can digest.
