Make your Home your Fitness Studio

by FitnessGuru on April 11, 2010

Working out can be an expensive endeavor depending on what activities you choose and depending on where you want to work out. Often a fitness studio is the best (and easiest) choice due to the variety of equipment they have to offer. But as you know, gym memberships can be very expensive. As an option many people are considering a home fitness room or gym area for their workouts. But what exercise equipment is needed to make this a good solution and is the price you pay for it cheaper in the end compared to buying a gym membership?

In general there is a variety of fitness equipment available and all you have to do is to match your needs against your budget. Two things to keep in mind is that a) there is no limit in regards to how expensive exercise equipment can get and b) you do not need to buy professional gym-strength machines as the overall usage will be much less. The next thing to look at is what type of equipment do you need. Are you more interested in cardio exercise equipment or rather strength related equipment or is it more a combination of both? For most people it is a combination of both.

Cardio Exercise Equipment is easy to account for. Treadmill? Check. Elliptical Trainer? Check. Rowing machine? Check. Indoor Bike? Check. Now that was easy, wasn’t it!?

When it comes to weight and strength training it is a complete different story. You might need dumbbells, resistance equipment, fitness ball, fitness mats, press bench, and and and. There is exercising equipment for anything available these days. But let me ask you this question: How big is your house? Do you have enough room for all this equipment?

Money is another issue. All these things add up. You can get a good treadmill for $800 and a good elliptical trainer for around $600, but when you start looking at all the other things you might want to have for strength and weight training you are easily looking at several thousands of dollars (again, depending on how far you want to take this).

As an example – a great option for the home gym is a Bowflex Gym System. A Bowflex Home Gym is a resistance exercise machine used for building strength and muscle. The Bowflex has many advantages. As an example, quite many exercises that you can do on different gym training machines can be done on a Bowflex Home Gyms with the advantage that you need only 1 machine and not many. A Bowflex Home Exercise System has also the advantage of being compact enough to be set up in almost any room of a house. And while you can spec out a Bowflex system to be quite expensive they also carry many models that are priced much more reasonable if you are on a budget.

When it comes to exercising at home, don’t expect a home gym to be the most effective option. It requires some strong will and discipline. Choosing the right equipment for your workout can be a very difficult decision and a very expensive one, too. However, with putting in some additional thought upfront you can control the cost and still get a good home gym into place.
